Posted on: 19/Nov/2024 10:46:34 AM

In a significant move, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has unveiled a revised baggage policy to streamline the transport of goods on city buses. The policy allows passengers to carry items weighing up to 20 kg and trolley bags within a size limit of 65 cm free of charge. However, passengers carrying heavier or larger baggage will need to pay an additional charge equivalent to a single passenger fare.

Highlights of the Policy:

1. Free Items (Under 20 kg or 65 cm):

- Shoulder bags, handbags, cameras, laptops, wheelchairs for differently-abled individuals, and musical instruments for folk artists are included in this category.
- Trolley suitcases or bags up to 65 cm are also free.

2. Chargeable Items:

- Any baggage exceeding 20 kg or larger than 65 cm will incur a fee equal to one passenger fare.
- Goods carried for business purposes, even if they weigh less than 20 kg, will be subject to charges.

3. Prohibited Items:

- Items that could inconvenience other passengers, such as contraband, flammable materials, or wet goods, are strictly prohibited.

4. Non-Passenger Loads:

- Large or bulky items that occupy excessive space are not permitted. Passengers carrying commercial loads such as newspapers or mail must secure prior approval from MTC.

A Step Towards Better Commuting

MTC clarified that this policy ensures fair usage of space within city buses while maintaining passenger comfort and safety. The corporation is committed to strict enforcement to ensure compliance and a smooth transit experience for all.

Passengers are advised to familiarize themselves with the guidelines before traveling and contact MTC for any specific clarifications.
