In light of the heavy rain forecast, authorities have declared a holiday for schools in Chennai, Chengalpattu and Kanchipuram on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, as a precautionary measure against the expected downpour. The decision comes as the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal intensifies and is forecasted to bring very heavy rainfall to several regions.
Additionally, a holiday has been declared for schools and colleges in Tiruvallur , Villupuram, Thanjavur, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Karaikal, , and Tiruvarur districts due to the heavy rain warnings. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted very heavy rainfall in these areas, as the depression is likely to strengthen into a cyclonic storm and move towards the Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka coasts.
Officials have urged residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during this period of adverse weather. Parents and students are advised to stay informed through official channels for any further updates.
