Who would have thought that the TPR in Chennai in this third Coronavirus infection wave would be more than the TPR in the deadlier second infection wave?

The truth is that the test positivity rate or TPR of the third wave has overtaken the TPR of the second wave in Chennai. It is known that the second wave was deadly and led to many deaths. What is even more shocking is that ever since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, the active cases of 58000 now in Chennai is the highest.

On Saturday, 15th January 2022, as many as 29960 samples were tested out of those atleast 8978 were Covid-19 positive and this was 30% TPR. On Friday, 14th January, 8963 samples out of a total of 31371 tested were found to be positive showing 28.6% TRP. This was according to the health department data.

It is learnt that on 10th May 2021, Chennai recorded a TPR of 26.6%. This was the highest ever TPR that was recorded in the second infection wave in Chennai. Information is that TPR in Chennai was more than 30% in the first infection wave in 2020.

The Chennai corporation commissioner Mr. Gangandeep Singh Bedi expressed his views about higher TPR in Chennai. He revealed that GCC has been testing more than 30000 samples daily now and how the Omicron variant is more infectious than the Delta variant. He concluded that the Omicron variant does not create breathing issues for the infected persons due to that the hospitalization is low.

It is learnt that both the police department as well as the civic body officials have been active in penalizing those who are not following Covid-19 protocols.  To make sure the home isolation is being followed strictly around 1500 volunteers appointed by GCC visit the houses of the Covid-19 affected persons.
