If you had Covid-19 infection and had recovered from that then don’t feel happy that you are totally all-right!! This piece of news would make many Covid-19 recovered patients feel surprised and shocked.

It was revealed by a recent study by the Tamil Nadu government that potentially serious infectious disease TB or tuberculosis would affect those who have recovered from Covid-19 infection. Caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis, TB or tuberculosis is an infectious disease that affects the lungs.

The Union health Ministry has released the study that was published in the India TB Report 2022. It was concluded from the study that TB case findings could be improved by including those who have recovered from Covid-19 infection. The doctors as well as the hospitals in Tamil Nadu must compulsorily notify new TB cases are well known. When compared to 2019, notifications of new TB cases dropped by around 63% in the year 2020 and this happened in the months of April and May in total lockdown.

Persons who were affected with Covid-19 in places like Chennai, Kanniyakumari, Tuticorin and Tiruvannamalai were taken for a study that was conducted by NHM in association with Tamil Nadu TB cell to understand the risk of TB in these persons. Point is that the study revealed a link between Covid19 infection and TB in the post Covid-19 persons. To get consent for the interview and reviewing, those affected with Covid-19 infection from March to May 2021 were called by scientists, doctors and health workers etc.

Between March and June 2021, the team had called as many as 5378 persons who were affected with Covid infection to get their consent to visit the nearby health facility for TB screening. In one group, the persons were subjected to X-ray and blood tests for random glucose etc and the eligible persons were asked to give their sputum samples for TB test.

It must be noted that in the other group persons were asked to give their sputum samples if they had TB symptoms. The co-morbidities and the medications taken by the persons when they had Covid-19 infection were also noted. Just 1210 out of 5378 persons have agreed to come to check-up and of those just 358 went to a health facility for TB screening. Information is that 126 persons underwent sputum tests and 123 had X-ray chest taken. As many as 135 people`s blood sugar tests were taken. It was found out by the analysis that 11 persons or 3.1% tested positive for TB.
