New Covid-19 clusters have been emerging in recent times in families, workplaces and educational institutions etc is a well known fact. Now, after nearly two and half months, the fresh Covid-19 cases have gone above 100 in the state. This has set the alarm bells to ring.

At the Vellore institute of Technology in Kelambakkam in Chennai, 45 new Covid-19 cases were added to the cluster. Now, the number of fresh or new Covid-19 cases has increased to 139 in TN. It must be remembered that in March month fresh cases came below 100 and by 15thApril TN was reporting around 20 new cases per day. New cases have increased due to the clusters in the educational institutions in the third week of April.

It is shocking to mention that Covid-19 clusters are present now in workplaces, families and in apartments etc. Circulars have been sent to various district collectors by the health department regarding the increase in the fresh cases on Wednesday. Instructions have been issued for ensuring Covid-19 protocols and encouraging vaccinations etc.

Health secretary, Mr. J. Radhakrishan expressed his thoughts and spoke about the marginal rise in the Covid-19 cases now in Chennai city. He added that the private labs have been witnessing a few cases and how late vaccinations have been superb. He threw light on how more than one crore people in TN haven’t yet got their second vaccination dose till now. There were as many as 59 new Covid-19 cases in Chennai on Wednesday and Chengalpet had 58 cases.

As per the health minister of TN Mr. M. Subramanian, the clusters in IIT-M and in Shri Satya Sai Medical College have come to zero now. Anna University still has got still 23 active cases. He highlighted that the cluster tally in VIT was 163. These numbers would increase for the next few days.

The health minister later cited the examples of the number of fresh cases in Kerala and in Maharashtra and hinted that in TN too the fresh cases would increase. Those with symptoms must isolate themselves and get tested for the infection. Up to 3lakhs RT PCR test could be carried out in a day now. To prevent mutations, it is necessary to keep the Covid-19 infection under control. This was as per some experts. They have mentioned that people must be careful and not drop their guards.

According to Dr. Prabhdeep Kaur, deputy director, NIE, new mutations would be a challenge as they would make the vaccinations redundant.
