The Coronavirus pandemic has been brought under control now in the state of Tamil Nadu. This has been mainly due to the measures taken by the government, vaccinations plus due to the public following safety measures etc.
Vaccination drives in Tamil Nadu have been highly successful and many persons were administered with vaccination doses. Booster dose vaccination is being provided to the people now for the sake of their health. In Tamil Nadu, urban local body elections would be held and due to this the vaccination drive has taken the back seat. In this month of February, the performance of vaccination drives has dropped to less than half.
On 3rd February, 3.03crores of vaccination doses were given to the people but on 10th February just 1.4lakhs doses were administered. On Thursday, 17th February, just 113311 persons were administered with the vaccination doses. Not many persons are aware of the vaccination drive now and the vaccination centres are witnessing very less persons who show interest to get vaccinated. This was according to some healthcare workers.
It was later mentioned by a healthcare worker at Villivakkam that the outcome of the vaccination drives would have been different if the special camps were continued for a month and booster dose was emphasised during the drive. She hinted that the upcoming urban local body elections have played its part for the vaccination drive to take the back seat. It is now said that once the elections get over the vaccinations would also pick up.
For the sake of the upcoming elections, many healthcare workers have been deployed for the poll activities and due to this reason the number of vaccination sites during the mega drive has come down. Information is that the mega vaccination drive has been postponed to next week due to the urban local body elections.
