With the reduction in the number of daily Covid-19 cases in Chennai and in Tamil Nadu and relaxation of various Covid-19 norms, wearing face masks was not compulsory in public places. Things have changed now all of a sudden with new or fresh Covid-19 cases increasing day by day.

The news now is that the collectors of all the districts in TN have been asked to impose a penalty amount of Rs 500 on those persons who do not wear facemasks in the public places now.

The health secretary Mr. J. Radhakrishnan had mentioned that the emergence of new variants and rise in the cases have forced the TN government to make wearing facemasks compulsorily now.  He expressed concerns regarding people who do not wear face masks at all even while travelling in public transport like buses etc. Therefore, the officials have been instructed to tighten norms and to collect fines from those who do not wear facemasks in public places.

It must be taken into account that in China the Coronavirus cases have been on the rise once again now. It is now said that those people from other states or countries must get themselves tested without fail if they have symptoms. All the collectors of districts in TN have been given instructions now to make sure that people with symptoms in schools/offices/other places must first go to the hospitals and get checked before going to their homes. Intensification of contact tracing must be carried out now.

After 18 more students tested Covid-19 positive in IIT-Madras yesterday, the total number of cases have increased to 30 now. On Thursday, the health department as well as the staff from GCC decided to carry out a saturation test and collect samples from all the 666 people present on the IIT-M campus. It is important to note that a separate isolation ward was created on the campus and those who are Covid-19 positive are being monitored.

The sources from IIT-M have brought out that all were stable and just one person has fever and there are chances that the cases might even go up to 100. Information is that all those persons who have provided their samples for testing have been asked to isolate themselves until the announcement of their results. Wearing facemasks has been made compulsory in IIT-M campus now. At all the entry points of IIT-M, thermal scanners as well as hand sanitizers have been made mandatory.
