Coronavirus panic echo: Thanjavur Big Temple closed!

Due to coronavirus panic and all associated preventive activities, the world-famous Thanjavur Big Temple has been closed until 31st December. However, the temple administration has informed that the 4-sessions poojas daily will be performed as usual.

The world-famous Thanjavur Big Temple is one of the hugely popular tourist spots as well! As such, there are thousands of visitors/devotees keep coming from foreign countries as well as Indians from other states and districts every day!

Especially after the recent renovation and Kumbhabhishekham performed on 7th February, the number of tourists has increased further and there were always a large number of tourists.

In this scenario, whereas the crowd level was dwindling in most other popular tourist spots, swarming crowds of tourists continued visiting the Thanjavur Big Temple. However, with the mounting precautionary actions, and all-important tourist spots being closed, the temple corridors were opened today (Wednesday, 18th March) at 5.00 AM and the devotees had Darshan as usual.

At this juncture, the instructions to close the temple was received and accordingly, the devotees in the temple at 11.00 AM were removed the temple was closed. A display board was set up at the temple entrance! However, the timely 4-session poojas will continue to be performed daily as per the officials from the Hindu Endowment Board.

Tharapuram Lord Iraavatheswarar temple has also been closed!
