The entry of people from countries like South Africa, UK, Brazil, Bangladesh, Botswana, China, Mauritius, Israel, New Zealand, Singapore, Zimbabwe, Hong Kong etc into India would not be smooth and easy hereafter!!
From 1st December midnight onwards people from these countries entering India would have to undergo a compulsory RT-PCR test and wait at the airport for the result even if they have a negative RT-PCR certificate. This was according to airport officials.
It was mentioned by a senior airport officer that at 12 midnight a British Airways flight is scheduled to arrive at Chennai airport and all the passengers would have to undergo RT-PCR tests compulsorily. He added that the passengers would not be allowed to go to their destinations for 6 hours until their test results come. He confirmed that no passengers have arrived in Chennai now as there are no direct flights from African countries.
On Tuesday, preparedness against the emergence of Omicron variant in TN was discussed by the health secretary Mr. J. Radhakrishnan with the Union Health Secretary.
Mr. Radhakrishnan later spoke about the adequate measures that were in place at various airports in Tamil Nadu and about the intense monitoring of passengers from foreign nations.
Dr. Sampath, joint director, department of public health and preventive medicine mentioned that no samples have been sent for genomic sequencing till now because the new guidelines would come into effect from tomorrow. Point is that with the addition of a few more counties in the ‘at-risk’ list there are chances for getting samples that would need genomic sequencing.
