Vaccination against Coronavirus infection has been going on in the state of Tamil Nadu and many have got 2 doses of vaccination. Truth is that the uptake of second vaccination dose is still very slow and 1.29 crores persons have not yet taken their second dose till now.
It is worthy to mention that the eligible population for vaccination that is above 18 years age in Tamil Nadu is57891000. As many as 49223228 persons have not yet got even their first vaccination dose also and that was until 1st of March 2022. The number of persons who were due for their second vaccination dose rose and it stood at 12932682 on 1st March 2022. This was according to data from the directorate of public health and preventive medicine.
In TN, the second dose coverage stood at 72 percent and this was as per Dr. T. Selvavinayagam and this must be improved soon. To get their second vaccination dose, the public must come forward. Truth is that many senior citizens were not showing interest in getting their second dose. He concluded that the efforts for improving the vaccination coverage would be continuing.
The surprising piece of information is that around 10.34lakhs persons have not yet taken their second dose of vaccination in Chennai now. Next, Coimbatore district has got 7.80 lakhs persons who are yet administered with the second dose.
In Chennai, the eligible population for vaccination was 5530900 and 98% first dose coverage and 79% second dose coverage has been achieved. Districts like Madurai, Kanniyakumari, Dharmapuri and Ranipet had higher number of persons who havent yet taken even their first dose. This was more than the numbers belonging to Chennai and Coimbatore. There are many persons who have understood the seriousness of this Covid-19 infection and they have taken both the vaccination doses. Booster dose was also taken by those who are eligible such as those above the age of 60 and those with co-morbid conditions in them.
It was brought out by a health officer that those persons who were forced to take 2 doses of vaccinations (for boarding trains etc) have taken their 2 doses of vaccination. Earlier, the government made it compulsory for those boarding the trains to show their double dose vaccination certificates before boarding the trains and this rule was received after some time. It is true that many people have become lethargic and complacent due to lifting of restrictions and due to the reduction in the daily Coronavirus cases now.
