Rain Forecast: Tamil Nadu Braces for Moderate Showers, Chennai to Experience Cooler Weather!

Posted on: 02/Jul/2024 3:46:54 PM
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) forecasts light to moderate rain across Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, due to changing wind patterns at sea. Temperatures are expected to decrease as rainfall continues to diminish gradually.

Under a moderate westerly/southwesterly air current, isolated showers, thunderstorms, and lightning are likely over the state for the next two days. Heavy to very heavy rain is anticipated in parts of the Western Ghats, supported by favorable southwest monsoon conditions.

Chennai and suburbs experienced mild rain Sunday night, with expectations of continued light to moderate rainfall, mainly in the evenings and nights. Daytime skies will remain cloudy, leading to lower maximum temperatures in the capital over the next few days.

Fishermen are advised against venturing into the sea until July 5 due to changing wind patterns. Wind speeds of 35-45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, are expected over the Gulf of Mannar and adjacent south coastal areas. Fishermen in deep waters are urged to return ashore promptly.

According to the RMC, Tamil Nadu has received 112 mm of rainfall from June 1 to July 1, significantly exceeding the average of 52 mm by 115%. Tirunelveli district recorded the highest excess rainfall at 412%, followed by Virudhunagar at 272%.
