17th Academic Dept in IIT-Madras - Superb new course that combines both engg and medicine

Diversification beyond engineering and towards the goal of inclusive education!!
On Thursday, 11th May 2023, IIT-M or Indian Institute of Technology, Madras became the cynosure of many eyes when it introduced its 17th academic department. The new department of medical sciences and technology at IIT-M would blend both engineering as well as medical disciplines together.
It is now revealed that this dept from IIT-M would offer a 4 year Bachelor programme, PhD programme for doctors, MS by research for doctors, MS programme in medical sciences and engineering, PHd programme for science and engg graduates. This one-of-its-kind discipline globally would play a role in knowing about the human body through technology lens. This was according to Mr. V. Kamakoti, IIT-M Director. He hinted that this new dept would become similar to the computer science engineering dept of IITM in the next 10 years. he concluded that in the future this new dept would create a pipeline of physician-scientists in India.
