The TN health minister Mr. M. Subramanian took many by surprise when he announced that the financial assistance has been doubled to Rs 2 lakhs from the previous Rs 1 lakh under Innuyir Kappom: Nammai Kakkum 48 hours Scheme.
It must be taken into account that as many as 500 locations in TN have been identified as high accident zones. Point to be noted is that private and govt hospitals have been empanelled to provide free treatment to accident victims within the first 48 hours. Information gathered is that as many as 721 hospitals including 473 private and 248 govt hospitals have been empanelled.
The beneficiaries who received treatment under this scheme have been honoured by the health minister. He awarded the hospitals and medical professionals for their performance. In addition, 108- emergency personnel including drivers and medical staffs have also been honoured. For those who bring the accident victims to the hospitals within 48 hours, a reward amount of Rs 5000 was also provided under this scheme. Point is that more than 3.2lakhs road traffic accident victims have been taken to the hospitals under the scheme.
The health minister spoke about how the TN government has spent Rs 280 cr towards the same and how the financial aid given to them was Rs 1 lakh. He added that the amount has been increased to Rs 2lakhs now.
Purpose of giving awards to the hospitals:
To encourage more government and private hospitals to make this project more useful for the people on a large scale, awards have been issued to the hospitals performing well under the scheme. It is learnt that the TN government would appreciate, encourage and motivate those who continue to do it. The important schemes like Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam and Innuyir Kappom serve as a model for other states and countries etc.
