Mettur Dam is now making news!!

The important piece of information is that the water level in the Stanley Reservoir in Mettur dam is inching towards its maximum level of 120feet. Yesterday, 20th December, the storage level here was just 1 foot short of reaching the FRL or full reservoir level.

At 8am, the water level reached 119.02 ft in the Mettur Dam. On Wednesday morning, the inflow went down from 6000 cusecs to 3000 cusecs. As the rains have eased down in the catchment areas, the inflow might go down further due to the water drop realized at Biligundlu. It is known that Biligundlu is the entry point of River Cauvery into the state of Tamil Nadu.

According to an official belonging to WRD there was uncertainty regarding when the dam would get filled up. The Mettur Dam`s storage level stood at 91.9TMC against the full storage of 93.47 TMC.

It is learnt that due to continuous rains in the Delta region 1000 cusecs of water have been discharged for Delta districts and 300 cusecs for canal irrigation. On 30th July, Mettur dam was filled up for the first time in 2024 and then on 12th August it happened for the second time in the year. If the dam gets filled up again for the third time in this year, then it would be a record. It must be noted that due to poor storage level the opening of Mettur Dam for delta irrigation missed its customary date on 12th June.
