The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Friday that the low-pressure area over the west-central and southwest Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a depression within the next 12 hours.
According to an IMD bulletin, as of 5:30 a.m. on December 20, the well-marked low-pressure system has shifted northwards and currently lies over the west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal. The accompanying upper cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 km above sea level.
The system is predicted to continue its northward movement, concentrating into a depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal within 12 hours. It is expected to maintain its intensity as a depression while moving north-northeastwards over the next 24 hours.
Weather Forecast for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal Under the influence of the system, light to moderate rain is likely in isolated areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Friday. Early morning haze and mist are also expected in some pockets across these regions, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai.
Between December 21 and 25, the IMD forecasts similar weather patterns, with light to moderate rain at one or two locations across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
