Tamil Nadu is set to make history in Indian esports with the Chennai Esports Global Championship (CeGC), the first-ever international esports tournament organized by a state government. The event will take place in Chennai later this year, featuring top esports teams from around the world.

Government Support & Investment
The Tamil Nadu Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department is leading the initiative, with a budget allocation of ₹562 crore for 2025-2026, a portion of which is dedicated to CeGC. The tournament aims to position Chennai as a premier esports hub and set global standards for the industry.

Esports in Tamil Nadu
CeGC builds on Tamil Nadu’s recent esports efforts, following the CM’s Trophy 2024, which attracted over 5,000 participants. The championship highlights the growing recognition of esports in India, especially after the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports included esports in its cash incentive program.

Global Esports Growth
Esports is gaining mainstream recognition, becoming a medal event at the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games, with plans for its Olympic debut in 2027. By hosting CeGC, Tamil Nadu is fostering homegrown esports talent and elevating India’s presence in the global gaming industry.

More details on the game titles and tournament format will be announced soon.
