A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal has caused strong winds along Chennai`s Marina Beach early Wednesday morning. According to reports, the depression is located approximately 470 km southeast of Nagapattinam, moving at a speed of 10 km/h.

The system is on the verge of intensifying into a cyclone, which would be named Cyclone Fengal, as proposed by Saudi Arabia. While it appears to be heading toward Chennai, the eventual landfall could occur anywhere between Puducherry and Chennai or possibly beyond Tamil Nadu’s borders, affecting Andhra Pradesh.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has issued an orange alert, predicting very heavy rainfall across Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Pudukkottai on Wednesday.

For November 26 and 27, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, with extremely heavy rainfall expected in isolated locations. On November 28, heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast for some areas, followed by heavy rainfall at isolated places on November 29.

Authorities urge residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions as the weather system evolves.
