Soon, work on 3 limited vehicular subways along Chennai-Trichy NH to begin!!
In places like Madurantakam, Padalam and Pukkathurai in the Chengalpet district along the Chennai- Trichy NH or NH-45, work on limited vehicular subways would start. The accident prone black spots would have the subways soon and the preliminary works are being carried out now.
It was brought out by some sources from the NHAI that the works that would be carried out for Rs 89.26 cr would include the construction of a 1175m long flyover at the junction of the new road to Krishnagiri from Thindivanam. As a long term correction of black spots, the works have been taken up.
There are several preliminary works present now such as formation of service lanes, shifting of utility lines, SWD construction and pre-casting of retaining walls for the subways are being carried out.
Traffic would be diverted on the completion of the service lanes and the construction could be taken on the main carriageway. Till now, about 7.8% of the total works have been completed.
It must be noted that the subways would have space for pedestrians and would also have space for bikes, cars and cycles etc. At the locations, the cement concrete panels of the subways would be assembled. As per another official, the safety of the pedestrians and comfort must be considered. Point is that pedestrians form a significant section of being involved in the accidents.
Information is that the subway at Pukkathurai would be 1080m long and the subway at Padalam would be 1090m long and at Madurantakam the subway would be 840m long. By October 2025, the facilities would be completed.
