Care for the patients has reached another level in the last few years in various government hospitals belonging to Chennai. These hospitals have changed totally with the help of better infrastructure etc. The requirements of the patients have been taken into consideration at the government hospitals in Chennai. Now, many such hospitals in the city have amenities such as battery cars, spacious waiting sheds and water heaters in the wards etc. Over the years, the hospital ambience has changed a lot in Chennai.

It is known that the challenges in managing the huge flow of patents and visitors are numerous. The hospitals must maintain sanitation, provide patient friendly ambience plus provide basic amenities and reduce the waiting time etc. For the sake of patients` comfort, several measures have been taken at the government hospitals.

It is superb to note that MRI services have been made available round the clock at the RGGGH in Chennai. This was done based on several requests from the public. The MRI services were available at the hospital from 8am to 11pm and many requests were made by the patients/visitors to extend it. By this, the need to wait would not be there. Now with the help of a technician the MRI services would be available from 11pm till 8am. In this time, MRI services receive atleast 4 to 5 patients with neurological conditions like seizures and strokes etc. This was as per Dr. Theranirajan dean of RGGGH.

At this RGGGH, water heaters and pantries were set up on all the floors and racks were put in place. Pest control services have been hired to address the issue of cockroaches and insects etc. Damaged lifts would be replaced and 23 new lifts would be installed in the RGGGH soon. At several points, signages have been put up to help the patients.

It is noteworthy that at the Omandurar Multi Speciality Hospital an advanced maternal screening scheme was rolled out about 2 months back. Risk assessment for pregnant women would be provided by this screening scheme. To help many elderly patients, the Omandurar hospital has added 2 more battery operated cars. This was mentioned by the nodal officer of the hospital V. Anand Kumar. He added that when the elderly patients coming to the OP departments are referred to the B block they find difficulty in walking. Now, the battery operated cars would be highly beneficial for them.

Dr. P. Balaji dean SMCH in Chennai spoke about how it is highly necessary to keep the hospital premise neat and clean now as patients footfalls have increased. He shed light on how the SMCH premises are maintained well by the workers and how disinfection has been carried out at regular intervals to avoid cross infections.
