The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has successfully removed and incinerated 406 metric tonnes of firecracker waste following this year’s Deepavali celebrations. Cleanliness workers collected the waste from various locations across the city, which was then transported to a private factory in Gummidipoondi for safe disposal.

According to GCC’s statement, shared by *Daily Thanthi*, the cleanup began with the collection of 92.78 tonnes on the first day of Deepavali, followed by 167.55 tonnes on the second day, and 146 tonnes on the third day, totaling 275 tonnes during the festival period. An additional amount of waste was gathered after the celebrations, completing the final tally at 406 tonnes.

GCC has assured that stringent safety protocols were in place throughout the destruction process to minimize environmental impact and prevent pollution. This proactive approach underscores the Corporation`s commitment to maintaining city hygiene and environmental safety.
