Among those hit by the devastating effects of Vardha Cyclone are a number of transformers and electric poles. Due to these, there is disruptive power supply in most areas that are victims of the cyclone. The reason for this delay is claimed to be the ravages caused to ginormous transformers and poles.
Works to renovate the electric lamp poles that are damaged in the cyclone are on the go. Over ten thousand such poles and 450 lamp poles are damaged. Most areas of Chennai are receiving uninterrupted power supply.
The main reason for this prolonged period is that 4 substations and 14 high pressure transformers are devastated. The 230V substations at Tandayarpet, Manali, Mylapore and Taramani are completely ravaged. Kanchipuram-Kadapperi, Pallikaranai, Padappai - in each of these areas, two electric transformers are ravaged, and at Sunguvarchatram one transformer, three each in Veerapuram and Nemili are damaged and electricity supply are disrupted.
The minister of electricity department Thangamani stated that suburban areas of Chennai city will start receiving power supply in 2 or 3 days.
