If you are of the view that all types of hair oils would be good for your hairs and scalp, then this article would be shocking for you!!
Especially when hair oils are used incorrectly or not suitable for hair type or scalp condition etc, some hair oils can be harmful for us also. It is worthy to note that oils that are heavy could clog the pores on the scalp resulting in dandruff, itching or hair fall etc. Moreover, using the wrong oil will interfere with the protein structure of hairs.
These below mentioned hair oils can be bad for the scalp and hairs, take care.
Mineral oil application:
Petroleum derived oil is mineral oil and it is mostly found in commercial hair products. It might provide hair shine temporarily but it would form a barrier and would prevent moisture from entering. Point is that mineral oils do not nourish hairs or scalp etc but could clog pores.
Hair serums as oils:
The silicone based serums are the so-called hair oils sold in the market. Truth is that these hair serums would have a shiny appearance but not nourish hairs or scalp etc. Moisture would be prevented from entering the hair shaft as silicone would build up slowly. This would make the hairs become dry and brittle beneath the surface.
Castor oils application:
It would be tough to wash off castor oils as it would be thick and sticky. Castor oils when applied in small amounts would help in hair growth but when used in more amounts would lead to build up on the scalp and would suffocate hair follicles. It`s necessary to wash hairs well after applying castor oil or else dust would be attracted easily. By this, we could get dull hairs.
Perfumed hair oils application:
To make hair oils with a good smell, some oils are loaded with synthetic fragrances. It is true that these fragrances would lead to allergies, itching, scalp sensitivity etc. It must be taken into account that fragrances would dry out the hairs and would interfere with scalps` natural oil balance etc.
Mustard oil application:
Sensitive scalps would get irritated by application of mustard oil. The presence of erucic acid in mustard oil could be harmful and toxic if not used properly. There are chances of getting scalp burns, inflammation etc.
Amla oil application:
It is worthy to note that many amla oils have more mineral oil or artificial fragrance than the actual amla extract. Bitter fact is that using amla oil could lead to scalp sensitivity, allergy and dryness etc.
Tea tree oil application:
Never use tea tree oil in its concentrated form though this oil has got superb antibacterial properties in it. Bitter fact is that when we apply undiluted tea tree oil on the scalp we could get burning, redness, and dryness.
Almond oil application:
Point is that using cheaper forms (that are refined using chemicals etc) of almond oil could strip the natural moisture present in the hairs. There are chances of build up and cause allergic irritations on the scalp etc.
