Mylapore Station will be the link for the 3rd and the 4th corridors of the planned Chennai Metro Rail Project. The Chennai Metro Rail Project Officials shared regarding this rather unique and special project:

"As such, Mylapore Metro Station is to be set up at 35 meters below the ground level (115 feet!) with 4-levels – a common level, commercial offices, an elevated platform, and an underground platform.

As such, 4 driller machines are to be used in the construction of the station at different levels!

INDEED IT WILL BE A MAMMOOTH TECHNICAL CHALLENGE TO SET UP MYLAPORE STATIONS AS PLANNED!

In this station, 3 levels are planned underground at different depths: 115 feet (35 meters), 78 feet (24 meters), and 55 feet (17 meters).

Apart from this, there would be a level where ticket-issuing counters will be set up!
As there is a shortage of required land and the weight of the road is also less, there is a constraint to constructing the station underground!

When this construction project gets completed, MYLAPORE METRO STATION WILL INDEED BE A TECHNICAL MARVEL!

The 4-levels and the 4-different corridors:
·        1st Level -Below 55` Ground level = Madhavaram-Siruseri SIPCOT route
·        2nd Level – below 78` Ground Level) – Lighthouse – Poonamalee route
·        3rd Level (115` below ground Level) = Madhavaram- Kilpauk subway route
The Chennai Metro Mylapore (Thirumayilia) Station would be an important junction linking 2 corridors.

The design of the station would be similar to the present Alandur and Central Metro Stations! Preparatory works are starting soon!"
