Lorry drivers from southern Chennai supplying drinking water across the city have suddenly got into a strike. This has led to panicking situations in the southern regions. The water supply board of the city is currently supplying drinking water to the public via pipes, and in few selective places, lorries are hired in contract basis to supply the same. Furthermore, lorries also supply water to places like IT companies, hotels, private hospitals, apartments, private offices, etc.
Those wanting to get bulk supply of water contact these lorry owners to provide them with it. These lorry drivers buy water from suburban areas and supply it to those wanting it. In this scenario, the government has prohibited taking water from places like Ponmar, Maambakkam, etc. As a sign of opposition and protest, the lorry owners from southern Chennai have joined hands for a strike since May 8. This has left various apartments, office spaces and many others at OMR, Kovalam, Velachery, Pallikarnai, etc at a risk of withdrawn water supply.
