Police has informed that 67 spots have been identified in the city to conduct vehicle checks both during the day and night. All vehicles leading to the city are allowed entry only after checks. The number of policemen on vehicle checking duty has also been strengthened.

At the venue near Fort St George on Rajaji Salai, where preparations are on in full swing for Independence Day celebrations, elaborate arrangements are being made. Existing police security has been tightened with additional force deployed in and around Fort St George, where the Chief Minister will unfurl the Tricolor. Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras are being installed near the venue and specialised units like quick reaction teams will be also deployed.

Apart from heightened security at the Secretariat, police force has also been deployed at all major spots in the city where  public gather in large numbers, such as shopping malls and temples. Special security has been provided to all consular offices.

Police sources said seven-tier security has been put in place at the airport where entry has been restricted for visitors, while passengers are allowed only after checks. Similar baggage checks are done at railway stations and the mofussil bus terminus.
