The corporation on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding with Karur Vysya Bank to collect revenue from the 203 Amma canteens in the city daily.
It will deposit the cash on behalf of the civic body.
“We roped in a private bank to reduce the burden on corporation tax collectors and bring in proper accounting, “said a corporation official.
KVB managing director K Venkataraman said, “Some of the canteens have a current account with us. We provide a cash pick up service wherein the cash collected by the canteen staff is handed over to our collection agent who deposited it. “
The collection was earlier done by tax collectors of the revenue department who recently protested over being overworked.
