As the Union Government’s new Land Acquisition Act came into effect during the early days of this year, plans to acquire about 65.3 acres of land anywhere on outskirts of the city hit a hurdle. Following this, the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority is eyeing to find the best site to construct a moffusil bus terminus in suburban Vandalur.
According to official sources from CMDA, the authority is seeking a new site located at a distance of 500 metres from its present site. It added that the earlier plan to acquire 65.3 acres of land got failed he new Land Acquisition Act.
Earlier, in February, without being aware of the new act, orders were passed to acquire land. Now, the new land acquisition process is on and this is expected to consume some time, as it requires finalization of rules from the state as well as centre.
According to the new act, land acquired should be compensated with 4 times more than the market value in rural areas, and twice the market value for lands in urban areas.
