9,088 special buses would be operated by the State Transport Corporations between October 17 and 21 on the occasion of Deepavali. Of this 4,753 buses will commence journey from Chennai, while the remaining will ply from other parts of the State.
About 500 buses will be operated on October 17 and 18 from Chennai. On October 19, a total of 699 buses would ply. The number will increase to 1,400 and 1,652 on October 20 and 21. A similar number of special buses will also be operated in other parts of the State. A similar fleet will be available for commuters for return journey from October 22 to 26.
The Metropolitan Transport Corporation will also operate 200 special buses in Chennai. The government has made arrangements for booking online at
http://www.tnstc.in/ for trips beyond 300 km and will operate 25 special booking centres at the CMBT, Koyambedu.
Tamil Nadu Government has also cautioned omnibuses not to collect more than the fixed charges. Complaints can be lodged at the SETC office at Koyambedu by calling 044-24794709.
