Tamil Nadu Energy Department officials informed that there is a plan to install and commission 68 new substations in Chennai to ensure consistent electricity supply.
There is a demand for 12500 MW of electric power daily in Tamil Nadu.
This is likely to be more during severe summer seasons.
Though there is a shortfall in meeting this demand, there are problems in transmission & distribution of the power generated.
Substations play a leading part in distribution of power.
As most of the substations in Chennai city are quite old, the authorities have decided to install new substations.
