The Met department is expecting monsoon activity to intensify in the coastal areas from Saturday. The persisting upper air cyclonic circulation over Sri Lanka and the adjoining Comorin area will bring rainfall to the southern parts of the State on Friday.
The northeast monsoon has had a good start over Chennai so far with the city receiving 386 mm of rainfall, 59 per cent more than the average for the period, the official added. Officials of the WRD said the rains and Krishna water have together added 600 million cubic feet to the four reservoirs. This is enough to ensure water supply for a fortnight.
