SMS facility of Tangedco still to reach everyone

Electric billing information via sms alerts from Tangedco is yet to reach consumers, in areas besides the metros of the state. City residents have no complaints in regards to SMS alert facility, as the alerts are being promptly sent after assessors note the consumed units. It is the rural areas that are not receiving billing information although the consumers have registered their mobile numbers to avail the facility.
 
Speaking to one of the Mogappair residents, he stated that he received reminders via SMS for the last two payment cycles. But, city consumers still have some woes. Most state that few local officials are not cooperative for registering the mobile numbers or to update them. A consumer, in a complaint pointed out that an official at Kelly had poor attitude when requested to register mobile number and offered vague responses.
 
TN Progressive Consumer Center President, T.Sadagopan stated that as the consumer’s mobile number could change, the company needs to introduce a system to update contact numbers regularly, while ensuring mobile data does not get misused.
 
According to a senior official, registering mobile data can be done online and is easy. Separate register is being maintained in every section offices. Moreover, about 1.81 crore consumers’ mobile numbers have been collected out of 2.44 crore in the state, of which around 10% were incorrect.
