The bio-fuel generation plant under the Chennai Corporation using vegetable waste will start functioning from 24th February.
There are plans to generate 2 MW per day.
The project, set up at a cost of Rs. 40 Lakhs, will function under the company, Hubert Eurocare.

Presently, 500 kg of vegetable waste is used to generate power. This energy is used for 20 street lamps located nearby.When the plant runs to full capacity, it will generate 2 MW.
Apart for the power required for the plant, the power generated can feed 150 street lamps.
Test-run has been conducted successfully.
Some small activities are still to be completed.
The plant is set to start on 24th February (Former Chief Minister Jayalalitha’s birthday).
