Sewage treatment systems have been commissioned in 51 places-Chennai Metro Water

Chennai Metro Water officials said that sewage treatment systems have been commissioned in 51 places.

An official of Chennai Metro Water said, “The Tamil Nadu Government has decided to initiate steps to provide proper sewer connections to households polluting the Cooum, Adyar, Buckingham Canal, Mambalam Canal and Virugambakkam Canal, in the first phase. Corporation officials asked Metrowater to expedite plugging of 337 illegal sewer outfalls on these waterways. This work will be completed in two phases. In the first pace commissioning of 179 sewage treatment systems began at a cost of Rs 150 Crores. Now the work is progressing and sewage treatment systems have been commissioned in 51 places.”
 
After commissioning sewage treatment plants along the five waterways, a number of households in the zones of Royapuram, Anna Nagar, Teynampet, Kodambakkam and Adyar are likely to get legalized sewer connections in two years.
