Earlier, Chennai residents were supplied 831 million litres of water every day.

Currently, only 600 million litres of water is supplied daily. Actually, drinking water is supplied only on alternate days.

However, complaints are received from suburban areas like Royapettah, Kodambakkam, and Madippakkam that water is supplied only once in 10 days!

As the groundwater has completely dried up, the residents of Medavakkam buy water transported in lorries.

MWSSB officials explained that water is being supplied on alternate days as water levels in the main reservoirs are very low. They also accepted that some suburban areas receive water only once in 3 days.

They informed that activities have been undertaken to get water from Mettur Dam to Veeranam during summer
