The Chennai Corporation is set to import technology from Japan to improve the stormwater drain (SWD) network in the city. The move is the the wake of the partial efficiency of the network till now.

The civic body will send it’s engineers to Japan for training. This training will cover the techniques that will help them construct and manage the SWDs. it will also help the projects to improve the Adyar and Cooum waterways. Engineers K. Chinnaswamy and G. Tamilselvan have been chosen for the training programme, which will be between Sept. 23 and Dec 5. The expenses are to be borne by the Japan International Co-operation Agency.

The work on SWDs is set to begin next month in Ambattur and Valasaravakkam. The World Bank will fund these projects. The projects will help reduce the displacement of people staying along the banks of waterways across the city.
