The Moovarasampet Eri was a dump yard for the longest time. But efforts put in by the area`s panchayat along with the Sabari Green Foundation have revamped it. Sabari Green Foundation is a tree planting and lake cleaning NGO. The revival of this lake will help harvest rain water and bring up the ground water level. The Moovarasampet Eri Rejuvenation Committee has been formed for the purpose.
An official from the committee says, `Work is underway in full swing to revive the 50-acre lake, and our prime objective is to harness rainwater and recharge the groundwater level. We have roped in a hundred volunteers to clean the waterway by removing thorny shrubs and garbage. The Moovarasamepet village panchayat is chipping in by providing earthmovers and manpower under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.`
Residents from the area said, `This is a welcome move and all the residents are happy that the lake is going to be finally restored.`
