Special counters had been set up in Chennai Income Tax office to facilitate the people who file their Income Tax returns for the financial year 2014-2015. Information has been gathered that around 12000 persons have filed their IT returns. Several segments of people including salary earners, pensioners, etc filed their IT returns in these counters.
Special counters were set up at the Income Tax head Office in Nungambakkam in Chennai from 27th August. Income Tax office had already announced that people who have been filing IT returns in Tambaram region will have to file their returns only in Tambaram IT office.
12000 persons have filed their returns in these special counters over the last 5 days and 75503 people have filed their IT returns in the special counters till last July. 35184 returns are from Chennai metro city and other 39562 returns are from other regions.
For this current financial year, people with an annual income of over Rs. 5 Lakhs must file their IT returns online. Hence, there is a considerable reduction in the number of IT returns filed through written applications. Only people who earn an annual income below Rs. 5 Lakhs and those who had not claimed refund of TDS (Tax Deducted at source) only are eligible to file their IT returns in these special counters.
31st August being the last day to file IT returns, over 2000 persons filed their IT returns in Chennai city. The state Statistical details of persons who filed through IT returns at special counters set up in other places and online will come to be known after a day or two.
