The Kutcheri in the Park movement has entered the Limca Book of Records. It has won the National Record for the longest open air mic less kutcheri for children. The event is held every first Sunday of the month at Nageswara Rao Park in Mylapore. The event has been running for 10 years now. It started in February 2006. It holds kutcheris by children below 15 years of age.
The Limca Book of Records says, Sundaram Finance has organised over 100 kutcheris during the 10-year period with children from overseas, including from Middle East and the US, also having participated in the event.
A senior official of Sundaram Finance said, When we began the series 10 years ago, the idea was for this to be a launch pad for young musicians. Over the last decade, the Sunday Kutcheri has served as a platform for more than 1,000 children to showcase their talent. A number of these children have since moved on to perform in sabhas.
