Chennai District Collector Mr. K. Govindaraj has announced that if the public find any children alone in public places or in their residential area, they can dial 1098 and inform.
As per the guidance issued by Supreme Court, the scheme, In Search of Smile has been implemented in all the states to locate the children who have been lost by their parents/guardians.
5 special teams have been formed comprising of Police department and representatives from departments related Children Welfare in all the districts in Tamil Nadu during the period from 1st January till 31st January.
These 5 teams searched for lost children. Around 3000 children were located in places like bus-stands, temples, tourist spots, road-sides, and orphanages. Most of these children were handed over to the respective parents. The rest have been put in rehabitation schemes.
Following this success, the 2nd phase of the In Search of Smile has been put in action from 1st January, 2016.
Special teams comprising of Police & Non-government Officers have been formed. The mission of locating children is full swing searching in areas such as temples, bus-stands, tourist spots, Railway Stations, and Bus Stations where public gather.
Chennai District Collector Govindaraj has informed that to help the welfare & good future of these lost children, the public can dial 1098 and inform in case they find any lonely children in their residential areas or public places. Otherwise, they can inform the nearest Police Station as well.
