Senior citizens can travel in MTC buses free during day-time as well as in the night

As per the order from Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa, the senior citizens can travel in city buses free from 24th February.

Senior citizens who are over 60 years of age can download the application from the MTC website: www.mtcbus.org and register for availing free bus travel in all MTC buses.

The application forms are available in MTC Bus Terminus and Depots also. Filled applications can be handed over at the bus-stops or depots in 42 locations across the city and get the Free Bus-pass card and 10 tokens per month.

When travelling in the bus, the senior citizen will have to show the free bus-pass Identity Card with photograph and give the token and get free bus-tickets.

These have to be shown even when ticket checking examiners ask.The free tokens will be valid for a particular month as printed. If it is not used within that month, it will become invalid.

Free Bus-pass identity card and tokens will be available at all bus terminus and depots in 42 locations across Chennai City from 8.30 AM till 1.30 PM and from 2.00 PM till 7.00 PM and senior citizens can go and collect after submitting the application forms.

While submitting the application forms, for age-proof and residence-proof, copies of Aadhar Card, Voter ID, Driving Licence, Ration Card or School certificate can be attached.

2 passport size photographs of 5 cm X 4 cm have to be attached with the application.

It has been announced that the senior citizens can avail this free travel in all MTC buses including night services except air-conditioned buses.
