Chennai Oceanarium Complex is being set up in Mahabalipuram at a cost of Rs 257.59 Cores. The meticulously created SeaWorld is likely to have thousands of marine species, collected from the Ocean, moving amidst corals and reefs - much like the tourist attractions that thousands throng at Singapore and Australia. Handled by the Fisheries Department, it is likely to be operated through Public Private Partnership. Tenders have been floated.
 
Fisheries department sources said that the oceanarium will include an artificial ocean walk-through, enabling people to walk under the water through an acrylic tunnel. The tunnel creates an impression of walking on the seabed and the visitor becomes part of the marine environment. It provides visitors of all ages with entertainment, enjoyment and education, besides increasing tourist revenue massively.
 
There will be souvenir shop, 300-seater Multimedia Theater, class room seating 100,underwater Restaurant with 60 seating capacity, underwater accommodation, community Center for social and commercial functions with 1000 seating capacity and food Court including seafood courts
 
Above Sea Level there will be seal stadium with 2000 seating capacity and its support facilities, penguin Park with 50 birds and its support facilities and musical fountain.
