Nungu which quench the thirst in this scorching heat has started coming. Usually there will be more heat between the months of April to June but as of now the heat has already started during the month of March. People are running towards cooling things.

Nungu is brought to Chennai Anna Nagar  and Thirumangalam areas from Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur districts.

According to medical professionals, the seasonal fruit must be consumed during summer since it has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties, and improves digestion.

Though palmyra trees are drought-resistant, they are not as much remunerative as coconut crop and are hence not cultivated by farmers. But, the trees that grow on their own in the poromboke land are harvested by the farmers, usually with permission from the local bodies concerned.

A dozen of Nungu costs Rs 50.
