It is rather traditional for the RTC (Road Transport Corporation) to check the school vehicles just before they are set to reopen and send the report in a hurry. Now, RTC has ordered that all the school vehicles must be checked and the report submitted before May this year.
There are around 37107 school & college vehicles operating in the state of Tamil Nadu.
In order to prevent any accidents, steps are taken to check the safety features of all these vehicles and improve them wherever required. For this purpose, RTC officials visit every school and get the vehicle and check them.
As per the procedure. 16 functions including the tyres of the vehicles, emergency doors & windows, steps, fire-extinguishers, hand-brake, eye-check for the driver, and speed regulation devices in the vehicle are checked. If any defects are found, the clearance for road-worthiness for operating the vehicle is withdrawn.
RTO officials explained that the checks are done as a precautionary measure. So, order has been issued that checking of all vehicles must be completed before the May end and the reports must be sent. As per this order, Inspectors led by RTO Officials and committee members will either visit the school to check or get the vehicle to a designated location to carry out the check.
Committee members appointed by the state government of Tamill Nadu will also be present during the check. If defects are found, FC (Fitness Certificate) will not be issued.
