The metro rail officials have mentioned that the  141-metre skywalk between Chennai Koyambedu metro rail station and Poonamallee High Road will be opened to pedestrians on 14th April. The construction of the skywalk is above the busy Poonamallee stretch

The lack of a skywalk has been a huge problem for bus commuters, who get down at Rohini Theatre bus stop to reach either the CMBT or the metro rail station. Now passengers can safely cross the busy Poonamallee Road through the skywalk to reach the Metro station. It would reduce accidents on the road.

The skywalk in Koyambedu would also have a lift, which would provide accessibility to persons with disabilities, pregnant mothers and senior citizens. Besides the skywalk in Koyambedu, many more were planned by Chennai Metro to provide accessibility to Metro commuters.
