Here ends vacation and students are gearing up for getting back to school. Schools can never work without bags. With just one week left for the school to reopen, parents and children stride up to the stores to buy school bags. The two primary items needed for school reopening are school bag and uniform.
This has left most of the shopping zones at T.Nagar, Purasawalkam, Broadway, etc crowded with school children. Latest and trendy bags, shoes, water bottles, pencil boxes, etc are on sale in large numbers. There are over a hundred varieties of school bags of which 30 are new arrivals.

Bags with cartoon characters are priced anywhere between Rs 550 and Rs 1300. Trolley type bags are priced between Rs 1300 and Rs 2000. Normal bags are available from price Rs 400.
New arrivals
There are new arrivals entering the market every year. This year, rain cover type bags have specially come to the market. Speaking to one of the school bag retailers at T.Nagar, he says these rain cover bags come with a cover that can be used to wrap up the bag entirely and this will make the bag waterproof. This will be of great help for students to use during rainy season. They can safeguard their books from getting wet. These bags are priced between Rs 750 and Rs 3000.
Compared to previous year, there is a price hike of school bags of the range 5 to 8 percent. Schools are set to get reopened in another one week and hence a sales peak is likely soon, he added.
