Because of the efforts of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, Chennai Corporation was chosen for the smart city by Central Government. Chennai Smart City Ltd (CSCL) was formed under the Companies Act, 2013. Chennai Smart City Ltd (CSCL)’s office is housed in Amma Maaligai at Ripon Buildings. It will be promoted jointly by the state government and the corporation, both having 50:50 equity share holding.
As a part of the smart city proposal, T. Nagar has been selected for area-based proposal with components such as electrical network, water supply, sewerage, storm water drainage, solid waste management, IT connectivity and digitization, sanitation, pedestrian-friendly pathways, non-motorised transport, intelligent traffic management systems and retrofitting of green open spaces.
The smart city solution will be implemented from the financial year 2015-2016 to 2019-2020.
