Prices of tomatoes and green chilies because of short supply

Posted on: 28/May/2016 10:49:08 AM
Vegetables are brought from Koyambedu Vegetable Wholesale Market to Chennai and its suburbs for sales. The prices of vegetables have gone high in the markets. The prices of vegetables were less during the month of April. At the same time the prices have started going high during the first week of this month. Last week the prices were little less.

At this juncture, the prices of tomatoes, broad beans, yam, green chilies and green peas have gone up at the Koyambedu Wholesale Market. The reason for this is due to reduced supply of vegetables. Moreover the scorching heat has killed the plants. Because of this, the harvest has become less. Tomatoes which are brought in 70 Lorries are now being brought in 50 Lorries. Green chilies which are brought in 15 lorries is now being brought only in 7 lorries.

The prices are likely to come down during the second week of June.
