As a move to stop malpractices taking place in ration shops, a technically advanced machinery called Point of Sale is being used.
There are complaints about fraudulence taking place in ration shops. Aiming to mark an end to this and promote paper-free sale, the Tamil Nadu government has introduced an advanced machinery.
GPS technology
Point of Sale is at present being tested in Ariyalur and Perambalur districts. This is being introduced to ration shops across the state. The development credit to this machinery belongs to Omne Agate Systems, a company based in Chennai. It functions based on GPS technology and makes use of SIM card for its operation.
Once loads are taken from the godown to the ration shop, details of dispatch will be registered in the device. Further details about hassles encountered on the way, and transportation updates will also be registered in the device.
Through SMS
Details of each and every ration card holder pertaining to the respective ration shop will also be registered in the device along with mobile number and Aadhar card numbers. This will be followed by an SMS which will state about the products purchased and its quantity, total price, and the list of products that can further be purchased for the respective ration card. There will be no bill system. Further, higher officials will be able to know the stock availability, daily sales and other details of the ration shop.
Servers at godown
Speaking about this, the Managing Director of Omne Agate Systems S. Sivaselvarajan said the machinery is installed in Tuticorin, Kanniyakumari, Virudhunagar, and Ramanathapuram districts. All the 957 ration shops at Tuticorin have got this machinery. Necessary training for handling the device is being given to salesmen here.
As a first step, works to feed ration card details, Aadhar number, and mobile number are being done. Most of the ration card details are already fed. Further, training to use the device for sales is being given based on Taluk office. These devices will come to use from first of next month and necessary works for the same are being carried out.
We have set up servers in 9 godowns for the functioning of this device. And we have deployed an engineer in each and every Taluk. This will largely reduce the burden of salesmen here. There is no need to feed any details in the registrar. On the whole, there is completely no need to use paper and pen.
No more malpractices
There are 4.81 lakh ration card holders in the district. Of these, 3.5 lakh ration card details are already fed in these devices and salesmen are being trained for operating the device.
These will come to use in full swing from 1st of July. Till then, these devices will be used for testing. As the Aadhar card details will also be fed, each and every family will have just one ration card. Further, malpractices with supply at ration shops will be stopped.
