Normally the prices of private milk are priced high when compared to Aavin milk. At a time when the sales of private milk was on increase the Thirumala Milk Company increased the price of milk and curd per litre by Rs 2. The Tamil Nadu Milk Dealers Employees Welfare Association has opposed the hike.

n a statement, SA Ponnusamy, president of the association, said: There is good production of milk in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu Chief Minster has mentioned that Aavin milk will be sold for Rs 25 per litre in her election manifesto. In the absence of either the procurement price of milk or a fuel price hike, Thirumala has hiked its milk price from Monday (May 30) by Rs 2 which is applicable also to value-added products. This has been informed through a circular that is distributed among dealers.

Tamil Nadu Milk Dealers Employees Welfare Association is condemning this price hike. The leading manufacturer of dairy products in Tamil Nadu – Hatsun Arokya – twice hiked prices in February and in the first week of May in a range Rs 2 to Rs 4. Thirumala in April, without any notice, indirectly engaged in price hike by reducing the volume of a 200 gm packet of curd by 0.25 gm. As a result, consumers had to shell out an extra Rs 8.57 to buy a kilo of Thirumala curd.
