KMC to have infertility treatment centre

The Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital, also known as KMC, will have a first of its kind Comprehensive Infertility Treatment Clinic in Tamil Nadu.
Speaking about this, the Dean of KMC said, The Tamil Nadu government has already passed an official order to the effect and allotted Rs. 2 crore as initial capital. The state-of-art facility will be coming up at the second floor of out-patient department block in the hospital. The work should start soon. It would function under the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology with a dedicated team of over eight members, including two obstetricians, two nurses, one lab assistant and the team will be equipped with all the latest assisted reproductive procedures.
According to sources, The proposal for such a facility was mooted in 2011, but did not materialise for various reasons. But now, with government order being issued the project is likely to be expedited considering the importance attached to the whole issue of infertility. The Dean says, Over five to ten percent women, who come to the Department Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the hospital requires IVF procedure and the department treats over 300 infertility women per month.
Another doctor at KMC said, The facility would bring a ray of hope in the lives of economically poor families, which face infertility problems and can’t afford treatment in private hospitals. Recently a 35-year-old, a daily wager, had consulted them as she had no issues even after seven years of marriage. her husband, also a daily wager, had failed a fallopian tube surgery. she had a multiple blocks in her tube and conceiving naturally was difficult, so her only option was In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) treatment. For such women, the new facility would help.
